Depuy Hip Implants

Asheville, North Carolina

Johnson & Johnson is the parent company of DePuy, a medical device manufacturer that counts hip replacement implants among its products. Like other types of metal hip implants, some DePuy hip implants have been linked to early failure rates and dangerous medical complications.

If you or a loved one experienced complications associated with a faulty hip replacement device, the Asheville, North Carolina, hip implant attorneys at McWhirter, Bellinger & Associates may be able to help you recover the financial compensation you need to cope with resulting medical costs and other damages.

DePuy Hip Implant Recalls

In 2010, DePuy recalled two hip implant devices due to problems potentially associated with the products' metal-on-metal design. The affected hip implant products were:

  • ASR XL Acetabular System
  • ASR Hip Resurfacing System

There is evidence that DePuy knew about the potential hazards of its products since 2008. Despite this knowledge, DePuy waited until August 26, 2010, to issue the worldwide recall of its dangerous ASR hip replacement systems.

DePuy Hip Implant Complications

Among other faulty hip implant symptoms, metal-on-metal hip implants may cause a toxic accumulation of metallic debris in the tissue surrounding the implant. This can contribute to premature hip implant failure and other problems.

The complications associated with defective all-metal hip implants often necessitate revision surgery to remove and replace the devices.
